On 11 May, Buildwise was delighted to welcome Master’s students from ULB/VUB as part of the ‘Sustainability in Construction’ course for the recording of an academic podcast on 3D concrete printing.

The aim of this exchange was to foster critical reflection on the future of this technology through various academic and industrial perspectives. On this occasion, Buildwise highlighted the opportunities offered by 3D printing to design more efficient and sustainable components, particularly through the manufacture of discrete, assembled elements that reduce material consumption and construction times.

Discussions also focused on the development of more sustainable formulations, incorporating low-carbon binders and recycled sand, in line with the objectives of the 3DFORMWORKS project. Finally, there was a discussion on the principles of the circular economy applied to construction: design for disassembly, material recovery, reuse and waste reduction throughout the life cycle of structures.

Thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and insightful questions, and to the lecturers for this initiative that fosters dialogue between the academic world and applied research.
